About the race

Aquaman Dubai takes place annually at Kite Beach, offering a range of distances from the 500m Aquakids and 1km Aquafins up to the 10km main event. Scheduled for October 18, 2026, the race logistics include a mandatory safety buoy for all participants, while wetsuit use is prohibited across all distances. Entry fees fluctuate between 35 and 120 USD depending on the chosen category and registration tier, with the 10km course supported by two feeding points, whereas the 5km race provides one.

The coastal landscape

As you navigate the waters of the Indian Ocean along the Jumeirah coastline, the skyline is dominated by the Burj Al Arab, a structure famously designed to mimic a billowing sail. This stretch of sea has been fundamentally reshaped by massive land reclamation, most notably the construction of the Palm Jumeirah, the largest man-made island on the planet. While you swim, you are traversing an area that once served as a core of the ancient Magan trade routes, which connected the Indus Valley to Mesopotamia through the exchange of bronze and copper.

Historical depths

Beneath the surface, the region holds remnants of a long human connection to the sea. The Jumeirah district itself hosts an archaeological site from the Abbasid period, where excavations have unearthed residential quarters and a mosque dating back to the 10th century. This maritime legacy extends to the 16th century, when the pearl diving industry—a fundamental pillar of early Dubai’s economy—was noted by merchants like Gasparo Balbi. Before these historical layers were established, the local population practiced the worship of the deity Bajir. Today, the event remains centered on the open water, with the race village at Kite Beach serving as the hub for all start and finish activities.

Accommodation in the Jumeirah district spans from high-end beach resorts and boutique hotels along the coastline to serviced apartments in the nearby Marina area. Budget-conscious travelers can find local guesthouses or standard hotel rooms slightly inland. Expect to pay between $150 and $450 per night, depending on proximity to the race venue at Kite Beach and the level of luxury.

Things to do nearby

Beyond the race, the area offers extensive options for water-based recreation, including kayak and SUP rentals along the Jumeirah beach. Visitors can explore the Jumeirah archaeological site to view Abbasid-era ruins, or engage in desert trekking experiences organized in the surrounding landscape. Cultural activities include traditional culinary tours focused on regional spices and coffee, as well as visiting local museums that document the historical transition from a pearling village to a global metropolis.
