How to get there
Epic Lakes Swim Windermere
Where to stay
The area around Newby Bridge and the southern lakeshore offers a range of options, from traditional stone-built cottages and historic inns to boutique hotels nestled near the water’s edge. Lakeside camping is popular for those arriving with family, while local guesthouses provide a quieter base for early-morning starts. Expect to pay between 120 and 220 EUR per night for standard double occupancy in peak August, though booking well in advance is essential due to the high volume of summer visitors in the Lake District.
Things to do nearby
Beyond the water, the region invites exploration through its dense network of limestone-fringed trails and woodland paths. Visitors can take a heritage steam train from the nearby Lakeside station, rent kayaks or SUPs for a slower exploration of the smaller bays, or visit the working museum at the Stott Park Bobbin Mill. For those interested in local flavors, the area is home to several historic pubs and artisanal food producers specializing in Cumbrian produce, ideal for a post-race recovery meal.
