Where to stay

Aviemore offers a variety of stays ranging from traditional highland lodges and cozy wooden cabins to boutique hotels overlooking the Spey valley. Many swimmers opt for camping or caravan parks located directly within the Glenmore Forest Park, providing immediate access to the loch shore for early morning starts. Expect to pay between 80 GBP and 180 GBP per night for mid-range guesthouses, with premium lodge options reaching higher during peak weekends.

Things to do nearby

The Cairngorms National Park is a hub for outdoor activity beyond the race. Visitors often spend the weekend kayaking or paddleboarding across the loch, while the surrounding trails in the ancient Caledonian pine forests offer some of the best hiking in Scotland. For a slower pace, local distilleries in the Speyside region provide immersive whisky tasting tours, showcasing the heritage of the glen. Mountain biking and funicular trips to the high peaks are also popular options for those looking to explore the altitude.
